A Wollongong man discovered a rare and endangered spotted-tail quoll in his chicken coop, and local experts helped release it at a nature reserve.

A Wollongong man found a rare spotted-tail quoll, a Vulnerable NSW species & Endangered under Commonwealth law, in his chicken coop, after it visited three nights in a row. The man initially thought it was a ferret or weasel, but after setting up a rat trap and CCTV, discovered it was a quoll. Local experts from the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Water helped to safely release it at the Barren Grounds Nature Reserve. To protect both chickens and quolls, residents in the region are advised to quoll-proof their chicken coops.
