Taiwan's Deputy Foreign Minister attends Pacific Islands Forum amid China, US tensions.

Taiwan's Deputy Foreign Minister Tien Chung-kwang will attend the Pacific Islands Forum in Tonga this week amidst tensions between Taiwan, China, and the US over influence in the region. Taiwan's participation in the forum since 1993 aims to strengthen partnerships with its Pacific allies, such as the US and Australia, and address climate change and security issues, with US Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell also attending. Only 12 countries maintain official diplomatic ties with Taiwan, which is disputed by China.
