Omar Abdullah announces intention to contest J&K Assembly election after saying he wouldn't.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, National Conference Vice President, announced his intention to contest the upcoming J&K Assembly elections from Ganderbal constituency. This contradicts his earlier statement that he wouldn't stand for elections while J&K was a union territory. The first phase of the three-phased Assembly polls, scheduled for September 18, will be held under the Election Commission of India's supervision, with the state lacking an elected government since June 2018.
