Nanaimo Airport hosted its inaugural "Give Them Wings" event on August 13, introducing Indigenous families to various aspects of the aviation industry and the diverse career opportunities beyond pilots like aircraft maintenance engineers and structural professionals. The event, which attracted around 30 participants, featured a flight simulator, wind tunnel, expert speakers, and an airport tour, and aims to encourage Indigenous youths to pursue educational opportunities in the field. Scholarships are available for high school and university students through Nanaimo Airport and the B.C. Aviation Council.
