Manila Electric Co. partners with foreign universities to strengthen its nuclear energy program in the Philippines.

The Philippines' largest power distributor, Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), has partnered with foreign universities, including Ontario Tech University (Canada), UIUC (US), Harbin Engineering University, and Tsinghua University (both in China), to strengthen its nuclear energy program. The partnerships aim to provide knowledge on nuclear power plant management, co-develop and implement nuclear energy programs, and conduct joint research projects to facilitate the adoption of nuclear energy as an alternative power source in the Philippines. Meralco has also launched the Filipino Scholars and Interns on Nuclear Engineering (Fission) program in 2023 to cultivate local professionals with expertise in the nuclear power industry.
