Austria's Waldrappteam has been successfully teaching Northern Bald Ibis birds to migrate again, increasing the Central European population from zero to nearly 300 since 2002. The birds, which had lost their instinctive knowledge of migration routes, are guided by the team using a microlight aircraft to lead them on their journey. The Waldrappteam's efforts have transitioned the Northern Bald Ibis's classification from "critically endangered" to "endangered" and aims to create a self-sustaining population of over 350 birds by 2028.
