Auckland Council abandons forced sale of Ōtara property over $317k rates debt after discovering owner's death.

Auckland Council has abandoned its plan to forcibly sell a Ōtara property over a $317k rates debt after discovering the owner had passed away. The property, valued at $950k, was scheduled for auction, but a repayment arrangement is now being negotiated with the owner's relatives. This would have been the council's second forced sale of a privately-owned home over unpaid rates since the creation of the supercity in 2010.
