A Pittsfield officer saved lives by waking up and evacuating occupants of a Third Street home at 1 a.m. when a fire broke out. No injuries were reported despite the fire consuming the exterior and left side of the 2.5-story wood-frame duplex. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and firefighters used salvage covers to minimize water damage to the tenants' belongings.
