Alaska hunter Johnson was mauled by a bear, accidentally shot himself in the leg during the attack, and calmly recorded the incident. He was airlifted to an Anchorage hospital after first aid at the scene. The attacking bear was killed by other hunters. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game estimates there are approximately 30,000 brown bears, including grizzlies, in Alaska, with male bears during late summer and fall typically weighing 500-900 lbs.
