80-year-old Rochdale woman lost £750 when her debit card was stolen & used for withdrawals, despite her reporting the theft & canceling the card. Halifax, her bank, initially refused to refund the cash as they deemed her PIN protection as "gross negligence." However, after intervention from consumer champion Helen Crane, Halifax later refunded the stolen amount (£752.19) and a goodwill gesture of £75, along with £4 in lost interest.
