24-year-old Jamie Smith set a new record as the youngest English wicketkeeper-batter to score a century in Test cricket, breaking Les Ames' 92-year-old record. Smith achieved this feat in the first Test of the three-match series between England and Sri Lanka at Old Trafford in Manchester. Former England international and Sri Lanka batting coach Ian Bell believes that Smith will be a "world-class player over a long period of time".
