31-year-old hiker Kristopher Zitzewitz's skull found in Skamania County forest matches missing person case from 2013.
A human skull discovered in Skamania County's Gifford Pinchot National Forest is believed to belong to Kristopher Zitzewitz, a 31-year-old hiker who went missing in 2013 near the Big Lava Beds area. The remains were found on August 10 by a hiker who provided GPS coordinates. The Skamania County Sheriff's Office recovered the skull on August 15 and is awaiting official identification by the Clark County Medical Examiner. Zitzewitz had been separated from his partner in 2013 and extensive search efforts took place but were suspended due to inclement weather.
