Retired Bangladeshi Supreme Court judge Manik detained near India border on 10 Aug, accused of attempting to flee amid crackdown on ousted premier's leaders.

A retired Bangladeshi Supreme Court judge, Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, was detained near Bangladesh's border with India on 10 August, accused of attempting to flee the country amid a crackdown on leaders of ousted premier Sheikh Hasina's government. The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained Manik as he tried to cross over into India through Sylhet's Kanaighat border. This follows a series of arrests of leaders from the deposed regime since the collapse of Hasina's government on August 5, including former ministers and cabinet members.
