Polish PM Donald Tusk's coalition faces internal conflicts over liberalizing abortion laws.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk admits lack of parliamentary support for liberalizing country's restrictive abortion laws. Tusk, who leads a coalition spanning a wide ideological spectrum, had promised during his campaign to change the law to permit abortion until the 12th week of pregnancy. His coalition, however, faces internal conflicts, as left-leaning lawmakers advocate for legalized abortion while conservative members oppose it. Despite this, Tusk's government works to establish new procedures in prosecutors' offices and hospitals to ease some of the existing restrictions. Poland's current law allows abortion only in cases of rape, incest, or if the woman's life or health is at risk.
