India's Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution is modernizing the 1966 Sugar (Control) Order with a new draft, The Sugar (Control) Order, 2024. The draft aims to incorporate technological advancements in sugar production, and seeks feedback from stakeholders by September 23. The proposed order covers government regulation over sugar production, sale, storage, and prices, as well as licensing for sugar production from sugarcane and its by-products, including ethanol, bio-electricity, and fertilizers.
