2,492-carat diamond, 2nd largest ever, discovered at Botswana's Karowe mine by Lucara Diamond Corp.
A 2,492-carat diamond, the second-largest ever discovered, has been unearthed at the Karowe Diamond Mine in Botswana by Canadian mining company Lucara Diamond Corp. The diamond, yet to be named, was found using X-ray transmission technology and is the largest ever discovered in Botswana. The government of Botswana has proposed a law requiring companies granted a mining license to sell a 24% stake to local firms if the government does not exercise its option to become a shareholder.
