1,600-acre Sharrott Creek Fire in Bitterroot National Forest, Montana, prompts evacuation orders for residents in Kootenai Creek, west of Timber Trail; the west side of Sharrott Hill Loop; and Saint Marys Lookout Road, west of Saint Marys Road. The fire began on Aug 23 due to lightning and has rapidly spread due to extreme wind and conditions caused by thunderstorms. Firefighting resources have been deployed, but the proximity to homes and the age of the forest raise concerns for further damage.
