The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) awarded €50,000 in compensation to a senior IT worker, Mark Lawlor, whose role was filled while he was on sick leave due to a cancer diagnosis. Lawlor, a former chief technical officer at DNA IT Solutions, claimed he was discriminated against due to his disability. The WRC determined that DNA IT Solutions had not made proper inquiries regarding Lawlor's ability to resume his role, leading to the award for discriminatory treatment.
