Malaysia's Road Transport Department enforces action against unpaid traffic fines of Singaporean motorists via the Vehicle Entry Permit system.

Starting from 1 January 2025, Malaysia's Road Transport Department (JPJ) will enforce action against Singaporean motorists with unpaid traffic fines, following the implementation of the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) system on 1 October. Over 35,000 unpaid summonses from 1990 to June 2024 amounting to RM3.5 million remain unpaid. The VEP system, which tracks every car's traffic offences, will require foreign-registered vehicles entering Malaysia from Singapore by land to have a valid VEP, acting as an "identity card". Motorists without a valid VEP risk being denied entry or fined up to RM2,000. Full enforcement action will be implemented from January 1, 2025.
