Former TBI Director Mark Gwyn, Tennessee's first African-American director, has passed away at 61. Gwyn served in various roles at the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation from 1989 to 2018, including Executive Officer, Assistant Director of Forensic Services Division, and TBI Director from 2004. Governor Phil Bredesen appointed him as director in 2004, and he held the position until his retirement. Gwyn's contributions to the Bureau and law enforcement in Tennessee are being celebrated and remembered.
