Former Memphis police officer Emmitt Martin III, charged in connection with Tyre Nichols' death, is set to change his plea.

Former Memphis police officer Emmitt Martin III, one of the former officers indicted on federal charges related to the beating and death of Tyre Nichols last year, is set to change his not-guilty plea to federal charges in a scheduled change of plea hearing in federal court. Martin's change of plea comes amidst another former officer, Desmond Mills Jr., pleading guilty in November to two felony charges of obstruction of justice and excessive force as part of a deal with federal prosecutors. The trial for the federal charges connected to Nichols' death is scheduled to begin on September 9 in Memphis.
