Edinburgh City Council has banned fireworks in four areas during Bonfire Night season (Nov 1-10) due to last year's disorder in Niddrie. The ban covers Niddrie, Balerno, Seafield, and Calton Hill, and setting off private fireworks is now a criminal offense. This is the first use of new Scottish local authority powers to establish 'firework control zones' (FCZs), which aim to curb anti-social behavior and violence during Bonfire Night celebrations.
