Australia assumes command of CTF 153 for maritime security in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandeb, and Gulf of Aden for six months, starting in October.

Australia will take command of Combined Task Force 153 (CTF 153) in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandeb, and Gulf of Aden for a six-month period starting in October. The task force, launched in April 2022, focuses on maritime security and capacity-building efforts in the region. This marks Australia's first time commanding CTF 153, having previously led CTFs 150 and 152. The Combined Maritime Force, consisting of 44 member nations, aims to support the freedom of navigation, free and fair trade, and the international rules-based order.
