Alaska Supreme Court to decide if open primary/ranked choice repeal measure remains on November ballot due to petition booklet deadline dispute.

The Alaska Supreme Court will hear arguments on a case that may determine whether a measure to repeal the state's open primary and ranked choice voting system remains on the November ballot. The 2020 initiative, which replaced party primaries with open primaries and instituted ranked vote general elections, is being used in the current elections. The case revolves around the deadline for correcting errors in petition booklets, with the sponsors of the repeal measure returning 62 corrected booklets before the signature count was completed. Attorneys on both sides argue that if the corrected booklets are disqualified, the measure would not meet the signature requirements to qualify for the ballot. The ruling from the high court is sought by September 3.
