Private school GCSE top grades gap widens over state schools, reports Sutton Trust.

The gap in top GCSE grades between private and state schools in the UK has widened, with private schools experiencing a higher increase in grades compared to state schools, according to a recent report from the Sutton Trust. Private school students achieved almost half (48.4%) of their GCSEs at grade 7 or above, while comprehensive schools and academies had only around a fifth (21.2%) of their students achieving the same grade. This disparity highlights the need for a fresh approach in education, focusing on making schools more inclusive and equitable for all children while also tackling the inequalities that exist outside of school environments that significantly impact students' readiness to learn.
