India and Denmark establish the Smart Laboratory on Clean Rivers (SLCR) in Varanasi, marking a milestone for small river rejuvenation and management. Led by India's Department of Water Resources, the project uses sustainable approaches to revive the Varuna River in collaboration with IIT-BHU and Denmark. The SLCR, with a total funding of ₹21.80 crore, creates a collaborative platform for government bodies, institutions, and communities to share insights and develop solutions for clean river water. The lab consists of a hybrid model at IIT-BHU and an on-field living lab at the Varuna River, with projects focusing on water management, pollutants, regional development, and hydrogeological models.
