2023-24 financial year sets a new post-earthquake bus patronage record of 14.5 million trips in Greater Christchurch.
Greater Christchurch set a new post-earthquake bus patronage record, with nearly 14.5 million trips in the 2023-24 financial year, up 2.8% from the previous record in 2013-14. The $2 Flat Fare Trial, network reliability improvements, and increased service frequencies contributed to the rise. The network aims to exceed its pre-earthquake patronage record of 17.2 million trips in the 2009-10 financial year, with Environment Canterbury's 2024-34 Long Term Plan committing to service improvements, subject to government funding.
