Edward Ellison appointed new chair of Māori Heritage Council and deputy chair of Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga Board.

Edward Ellison ONZM, an experienced chair in governance and cultural heritage, has been appointed new chair of the Māori Heritage Council and deputy chair of the Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga Board by Arts Minister Paul Goldsmith. Ellison, who was awarded the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2015 for his work in protecting and promoting Māori heritage, will handle responsibilities for historic places and areas of cultural, spiritual, and historical significance for Māori. Goldsmith expressed gratitude to Sir John Clarke, who served in these roles since 2014, for his contributions in Māori and heritage preservation, which earned him a knighthood in 2018.
