Canada launches CCGS Naalak Nappaaluk, a new Offshore Oceanographic Science Vessel for climate change research and search & rescue operations.

Canada's Coast Guard has launched the new Offshore Oceanographic Science Vessel (OOSV) named CCGS Naalak Nappaaluk, a floating laboratory built by Seaspan under its National Shipbuilding Strategy. The vessel is equipped with an on-board computer, marine mammal observation station, ocean sampling room, oceanographic winch, and permanent and portable labs. Its primary research focus will be tracking ocean conditions impacted by climate change and studying the effects on fish populations, habitats, and deep-sea food webs. The ship also supports search and rescue operations and environmental response missions when needed.
