Air Canada pilots union to vote on strike ballot on Aug 22nd, seeking modernized contract and possible strike in Sept if no agreement.
Air Canada's pilots union, Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) Canada, is set to vote on a strike ballot on August 22nd. They are seeking a modernized contract with fair compensation, respectable retirement benefits, and quality-of-life improvements, as their current 10-year contract is considered "stale and outdated." Pilots earn half of what their American counterparts make, and a strike could start as early as September 17th if no agreement is reached by mid-September. Air Canada is in negotiations with the union and states that it will be "business as usual" until mid-September, when no action can be taken by either side.
