University of Kentucky dismantles Office for Institutional Diversity amidst state lawmaker concerns.

The University of Kentucky dismantled its Office for Institutional Diversity due to concerns from state lawmakers that its focus on identity may have stifled political discussions. This move follows debates over restricting DEI practices at public universities. The university's president, Eli Capilouto, emphasized that academic freedom would not be affected and units within the dissolved Office for Institutional Diversity would be shifted to other offices, including into a newly created Office for Community Relations. Similar decisions have been made by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the University of Missouri, where their respective offices of Diversity and Inclusion were dissolved, and the University of Iowa is considering banning all DEI offices and initiatives in higher education.
