32,000 unaccompanied child migrants lost track of by US Department of Homeland Security.

An internal watchdog report reveals that the US Department of Homeland Security may have lost track of over 32,000 unaccompanied child migrants who arrived in the US between 2019 and 2023. The report found that over 32,000 unaccompanied minors failed to show up for their immigration court hearings, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was unable to account for their locations. Concerns have been raised about the safety of these children and the effective management of the immigration process. ICE has acknowledged some of the report's recommendations and has plans to incorporate automated tracking mechanisms.
