9th Circuit Court of Appeals reinstates privacy lawsuit against Google over Chrome user data collection.

The U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals revived a privacy lawsuit against Google by Chrome users, who allege the company collected their personal information without consent when they chose not to synchronize their browsers with their Google accounts. The appeals court stated that the lower court judge who dismissed the case should have assessed whether reasonable Chrome users consented to data collection when browsing online. This decision followed Google's agreement to destroy billions of records in response to a separate lawsuit alleging the company tracked users who believed they were browsing privately, including in Chrome. The case now returns to the U.S. District Court for further proceedings.
