A Canada lynx, a rare and endangered species, was spotted in Rutland County, Vermont on August 17, marking the first confirmed sighting since 2018. The lynx, distinguishable from the more common bobcat, was filmed by local Gary Shattuck. Biologist Brehan Furfey identified the animal in Shattuck's video as a juvenile male. The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department believes the lynx was seeking to establish its own territory.
