Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes suspended for one year without pay due to allegations of anomalous appointment.

Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes was suspended for one year without pay by the Ombudsman over allegations of an anomalous appointment of Camilo Basaca Jr. as the acting chief of the city's social welfare services office. The suspension, effective August 12, 2024, found Cortes guilty of grave misconduct and conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service but dismissed the case against Basaca due to insufficient evidence. Cortes plans to appeal the decision.
