The opposition Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has called for a state-wide shutdown, or "Maharashtra bandh," on August 24 to protest the alleged sexual assault of two young girls at a school in Badlapur, Thane district. The MVA, which includes the Congress, Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (SP), led by Sharad Pawar, made the decision following a meeting. MVA leaders criticized the BJP-led Mahayuti government for its handling of women's security and other issues.
