A man was killed after fleeing from police in a vehicle near Rotorua, New Zealand, following reports of gunshots in a rural area. Police were called at 9 PM and a vehicle of interest was located, with the driver pointing a firearm at officers before fleeing. The Armed Offenders Squad, Police dog unit, and a helicopter were deployed to locate the suspect. Road spikes were successfully deployed in Putāruru shortly before 11 PM, but the man succumbed to injuries, with no shots or force being used by the officers. Several investigations, including a Critical Incident Investigation, are underway, with the matter to be referred to the Independent Police Conduct Authority. Support is being provided to the officers involved and the man's family.
