Iran requests observer status in Eurasian Economic Union, negotiations scheduled for August 19, 2024.

Iran has requested observer status in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), with consultations held on 19 August 2024 by the Eurasian Economic Commission. The decision to grant Iran observer status will be made by the heads of EAEU member states at a Supreme Eurasian Economic Council meeting. The Iranian and EAEU trade turnover is anticipated to reach $18-20 billion within 5-7 years after the free trade agreement signed on 25 December 2023 takes effect.
