Eskom partners with law enforcement to remove 35 illegally connected transformers in Gauteng.

Eskom, South Africa's state-owned electricity utility, has partnered with law enforcement agencies to remove over 35 illegally connected transformers in Gauteng's Diepsloot Extension 6, as part of its efforts to reclaim its network and counteract the strain caused by unauthorized and illegal connections. In the 2022/23 financial year, these activities led to non-technical losses of around R5 billion. The joint operation aims to safeguard Eskom's assets, ensure public safety, and mitigate energy losses.
