The Chicago Cubs have released veteran reliever Hector Neris and plan to call up right-hander Jack Neely, according to ESPN. Neris signed a one-year, $9 million contract with the team but was designated for assignment due to underperformance. In his place, the Cubs will bring up Jack Neely, a 24-year-old prospect acquired in a trade with the New York Yankees. Neely has a 2.42 ERA in 37 minor league appearances this year.
