Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) selects former Union Minister Rameshwar Teli and ex-MLA Mission Ranjan Das as candidates for Rajya Sabha elections in Assam, where they hold sufficient numbers to fill two vacant seats. The opposition did not field any candidates. Teli and Das are seen as strengthening BJP's position in the region and catering to the Bengali voter base in Barak Valley.
