720,796 BMW vehicles are recalled due to fire risk linked to insufficiently sealed water pumps.
German carmaker BMW is recalling 720,796 vehicles due to a potential fire risk linked to water pumps with insufficient sealing. The recall covers some X1, X3, and X5 models, as well as others. The water pumps in these vehicles have insufficient sealing, which may lead to fluid ingress at the electrical connector over time. This could cause a short circuit and, in rare cases, a fire. BMW will inspect and replace water pumps and plug connectors as necessary, and install a shield to divert fluid from the positive crankcase ventilation system's intake air house. Vehicle owners are expected to receive recall notifications in October, directing them to authorized BMW centers for free repairs.
