National Grid begins 13-pylon replacement with underground cables in North Wessex Downs by 2026, led by Balfour Beatty.

The National Grid project to replace 13 electricity pylons with underground cables in the North Wessex Downs National Landscape near Devizes, started in Jan 2021 and is due for completion by 2026. Balfour Beatty, the contractor, is laying ducts for 44kV underground cables to replace the existing overhead lines. The project aims to preserve the scenic Devizes landscape and support new Net Zero infrastructure.
