Irish government raises mandatory retirement age for military, police, and firefighters to 62.
The Irish government increases the mandatory retirement age for soldiers, sailors, Gardaí, prison officers, and firefighters to 62, previously 60, as part of recruitment and retention initiatives, allowing highly skilled and experienced personnel to remain in service longer. The change was signed by Tánaiste and Minister for Defence Micheál Martin and aims to modernize the Defence Forces. Similar changes for gardaí are expected in the future.
