58% increase in out-of-pocket GP visit costs in Hunter NSW region over a decade.

Medicare data reveals that out-of-pocket costs for GP visits in the Hunter region of NSW have increased by 58% over a decade, reaching $47.06 in Q2 2022. The GP bulk-billing rate was 74.9% in Q2 2022, up from 72.8% the previous year, but lower than the 82.3% rate in 2013/14. Critics argue that the federal government's bulk-billing narrative does not align with the reality of increased out-of-pocket costs for patients.
