ClassNK awarded the first MRS accreditation to NYK's ammonia-fueled medium gas carrier (AFMGC).
ClassNK, a leading ship classification society, has awarded the first "Machinery Room Safety for Ammonia" (MRS) accreditation to NYK's ammonia-fueled medium gas carrier (AFMGC). Developed in partnership with Nihon Shipyard Co., Ltd. (NSY), the AFMGC meets the highest safety standards for ammonia-fueled ships, with delivery expected by the end of November 2026. ClassNK's ammonia-fuelled ship rules specify minimal design criteria for safe ammonia use onboard, and the MRS notation requires companies to meet optional functional criteria to reduce personal exposure to leaking ammonia in machinery rooms.
