Australian Conservation Foundation withdraws legal challenge, ending Scarborough gas project's legal hurdle.

The Australian Conservation Foundation has withdrawn its legal challenge against the environmental approval for Woodside Energy's $12.5bn Scarborough gas project in WA, marking the end of the legal hurdle for the venture. The environmental group believes Australia's laws favor fossil fuel interests and that climate damage isn't explicitly required to be considered under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act. The Scarborough project has all primary environmental approvals and work is progressing well, with the first LNG cargo expected in 2026.
