Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle will close its Malayan tapir exhibit for upgrades after moving its last remaining tapir, Ulan, to Fresno Chaffee Zoo in California. Ulan's move is part of the Malayan Tapir Species Survival Plan to increase tapir population in zoos. The exhibit will be improved for better tapir welfare, sustainability, and visitor experience, with a new tapir pair planned for the reopening in spring 2025.
