On Aug 18, China's manned deep-sea submersible, Jiaolong, marked its 300th dive during an 18-dive scientific expedition in the Western Pacific. The submersible, aboard China's Deep Sea No. 1 research vessel, has been exploring waters in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans since its first dive in 2009, completing a total of 900 deep-sea trips. Its primary objectives include collecting deep-sea organisms, seawater, and sediment samples to deepen understanding of unique ecosystems and environments found in seamounts.
