Oil spill of 225 sq km size from Venezuela's El Palito refinery has contaminated the Caribbean Sea, affecting Morrocoy National Park. Satellite images reveal an extensive oil slick, impacting local beaches and artisanal fishing vessels. State-owned Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) and the oil ministry have not officially acknowledged the incident. El Palito refinery, with a capacity to process 146,000 barrels of crude oil per day, is located in Puerto Cabello municipality of Carabobo.
